Ahmed Nashaat Travel and Events
Ahmed Nashaat considers participating in local festivals or events highlights of his foreign travels. It’s his personal choice for “cultural immersion;” and cultural immersion is an important part of all his international travels. “When you travel to a foreign country, you should take it as an opportunity to get to know its people and culture,” Ahmed Nashaat says. “Never pass on the chance to discover a country and culture different from your own,” he says; “you might be surprised to find that it’s not that different from yours after all.”
Festivals and events celebrate cultures and traditions. Some are religious in nature, while others are historical, still others are all about art, talent, and craftsmanship. Some festivals have become so popular, says Ahmed Nashaat, that tourists plan their vacation specifically around their dates to witness these events in person.
One such event is the Mardi Gras, a Christian celebration that signals the start of the Holy Week (it culminates one day before Ash Wednesday). Mardi Gras is known by many other names: Fat Tuesday, Carnival, Shrove Tuesday and Pancake Tuesday; and is celebrated in many countries around the world, the most notable of which are Brazil and the US.
New Orleans’ Mardi Gras is frequented by tourists from all over the world. Street dancing, parades of colorful floats, and participants and spectators alike garbed in colorful and flamboyant costumes are the highlights of the celebration. Ahmed Nashaat suggests that you visit New Orleans in time for the Mardi Gras as it’s really the only way for you to truly understand why this festival is one of the most popular in the country and around the world.
Mardi Gras this year falls on the 13th of February as Ash Wednesday falls on St. Valentine’s Day this year, February 14.
If you’re traveling to the US, other popular events here include the Rose Bowl Parade (January 1), Sundance Film Festival (January 21-31), Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (April 30), and the Burning Man Festival (August 28 to September 5).
